The Filter Photo Walk Winners Exhibition features work by winners of the June Filter Portfolio Walk held at the Hairpin Arts Center. Artists featured include Ray Ellingsen, Tracy Graham, Sharon Hoogstraten, Abbelyn Pick and Travis Roozee. The exhibition runs from November 17 to December 22, with an opening reception on December 7 from 6:00 – 8:30 pm. Gallery hours are Thursday and Friday, 4:30 – 6:30 pm and Saturday, noon – 4:00 pm.
The provocative images of Abberlyn Pick combine exposures of abandoned architectural settings with figures of women. Tracy Graham creates dramatic abstracted photographs of rock music performances, while Ray Ellingsen portrays the angst and intensity of the DIY music scene. Travis Roozee travels to small towns in the Midwest and finds beauty amidst apparent economic struggles. Sharon Hoogstraten gives the exhibition compelling contemporary portraits of the Citizen Potawatomi Indians, depicting how these wholly modern-day people are preserving the traditional dress of their ancestors.
Filter is an organization dedicated to producing the Midwest’s premier photography event, at the Annual Filter Photo Festival. Additional Filter sponsored events, such as the Portfolio Walk at the Hairpin Arts Center, are held during the year.
