With Ephemeral Artifacts Alan Strathmann and Renee Prisble create an installation which explores the mutable and ephemeral aspects of artifacts and events which produce cultural signifiers.  Strathmann is interested in examining the creation of artifact(s) and modes of learning in the context of digital cinema. Prisble is interested in human relationships to consumption and conservation. A historical water jug inspries her to explore what is artifice and what is artifact in our relationship to place and history.

Both artists are investigating these social and cultural forms using unstable and changing materials. Among these are grasses, paper, wax, sunlight, sound, pixels and other materials which will allow the experience of the work to change throughout the exhibition. Aspects of these works are materially and conceptually experimental from crafted and appropriated footage, and from manipulated audio ranging in its sources from archetypal musical forms to non-human conversations. Prisble’s interest in the jar is in its apparent obsolescence: desiring to examine the highly functional and aesthetic form that served humanity before running water. The works together explore the life and evolution of cultural iconography and craft through transformative mediums.
