Chicago Zine Fest 5th Anniversary. Free and open to the public.
Chicago Zine Fest, an annual celebration of self-publishing efforts, celebrates its 5th anniversary! This night’s event includes Zines: The Next Generation (6:00 to 7:00 p.m.), a youth reading featuring grade school and high school students reading their own self-published zines. And, an Exhibitor Zine Reading (7:00 to 9:00 p.m.) featuring readings by: Amber Dearest, Amelia Hruby, Caitlin Constantine, Cindy Crabb, Curiouser Jane, K of Lake Effect, Joyce Hatton, Keiler Roberts, Khristina Acosta, LB of Truckface, Mack Attack, Tevor Grabill. Both readings will feature ASL interpretation.
A Kick-off Celebration Dance Party with music provided by CHIRP Radio follows the readings from 9:00 to 11:30 p.m.
The Chicago Zine Fest is an independent event creating an outlet for small press and independent publishers to showcase their work with the aim to make DIY zine-making accessible, highlight the talents of self-published artists, and give independent artists a chance to interact and swap skills. The Chicago Zine Fest is sponsored by the Book and Paper Center at Columbia College Chicago, Quimby’s Bookstore, Chicago Publishers Resource Center, CHIRP Radio, 826CHI and Hairpin Arts Center. All 2014 artwork is by Chicago artist and illustrator, Marnie Galloway.
Events also take place at Columbia College Chicago’s Conaway Center on Friday, March 14, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and Columbia College- the Ludington Building on Saturday, March 15, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
